Microsoft is switching the servicing office 2010 professional to some singular monthly update. All of the updates for that month will be released together in a single download. That single download for each month may also be cumulative; meaning it'll contain the updates for that previous months.

Microsoft's explains their intentions for that switch to this model by saying:

This will affect both security and non-security updates. And also the .NET Framework will similarly be moving to a monthly rollup model for all future updates. The monthly rollup process is placed to begin this October.

This will bring cheap office 2016 and 8.1 servicing nearer to the brand new Windows-as-a-Service model. With Windows 10, Microsoft switched to cumulative updates which couldn't be bypassed, only temporarily delayed. The difference is by using Windows 7 and 8.1, users can still ultimately forgo updates, or at least choose exactly how long they want to wait to simply accept an update. However Windows 7 and 8.1 users won't be in a position to pick and select each specific patch. Ultimately this will lead to a more secure and stable procedure for updating the prior two versions of Windows.
