How-To Configure GMAIL for POP or IMAP Using Outlook 2010

Recently we covered how you can coect Outlook 2010 to Gmail using visio 2013 standard but I forgot to mention the settings in GMAIL figure out what type of coection Outlook 2010 uses (IMAP or POP). So knowing that, I believed I'd review real quick how you would start setting up your GMAIL account to make use of either POP or IMAP.

Open your Gmail account. Then Click Settings and visit the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

Here is where we adjust the different settings to determine which coection Outlook 2010 will automatically use. Note that automatically Outlook will coect to IMAP, therefore if both IMAP and POP are enabled IMAP takes priority.

Option 1: Use a POP coection. To make office 2013 professional coect with Gmail using a POP coection, simply Check Enable POP (either one works) and then Check Disable IMAP. Once you have that, Save Changes.

Option 2: Make use of a IMAP coection. To make Outlook 2010 coect with Gmail utilizing an IMAP coection, simply Check Disable POP after which Check Enable IMAP. Once you've got that, Save Changes.
