Windows 10's improved security

Windows 10 includes cloud-based protection, that was switched on automatically in the Aiversary buy office 2010 standard version. When Defender notices a suspicious file that it doesn't recognise, it refers it to the cloud service, which uses heuristics, automated file analysis and machine learning to decide whether or not to block it. Microsoft says: "In many cases, this process can help to eliminate the response time whenever a new threat emerges from hours to seconds."

Cloud-based heuristics have already made a contribution to blocking ransomware attacks that were not detected by traditional virus signatures (PDF). Of course, users is going to be less secure when they change the defaults in a misguided make an effort to protect their privacy.
